Farm" ("Calling All the Monsters" and "Unstoppable" by China Anne McClain) and "Shake It Up" ("Calling All the Monsters" by China Anne McClain, "Just Wanna Dance" by Geraldo Sandell & Ricky Luna, and "Made in Japan" by Bella Thorne & Zendaya); and in commercials for ESPN2 and "Belgium's Next Top Model" ("All Eyes On Me" by Jameerah). He also co-wrote songs for the Disney Channel movies "Avalon High" ("Destiny" by Play) and "Lemonade Mouth" ("Determinate" by Bridgit Mendler and Co.).
Charlie himself has also appeared on VH1 and SOAPnet as a talking head. The rest of him did not speak.
Charlie's co-write, "U Got Me Good," recorded in English by Sheri for the Swedish movie "Snabba Cash," reached No. 2 on that country's singles chart. He also co-wrote "Firefly," which Jeronimo performed in the Dutch flick "Mijn Vader is een Detective: The Battle"; "Turn the Tide," which AiluCrash performed in the Swedish film "Jag Saknar Dig"; "You Become" for the Straight8 Festival entry "Life Is Beautiful"; "Worth the Journey" for another Straight8 Festival short; "I'll Still Be Missing You" for the thriller "The Marionette"; and "My Last Audition" for the showbiz short "Audition."
You can thank your lucky stars that Charlie's zombie/vampire/werewolf/witch high school musical "The Dead Don't Date" has managed to never be staged. And he can thank his lucky stars that, in working on its demos, he got to hear Broadway babes like Tony nominee Kerry Butler ("Xanadu") and Amy Spanger ("Chicago") sing his characters.
He's also written more show tunes and novelty songs than either he or anyone else will ever need. One of them, "I'm a Nerd" by cabaret cut-up Joshua Desjardins, is "what could happen if a Weird Al Yankovic song got dunked in Europop," suggested music blog BillCS Is Tuned-On.
Charlie has heard his lyrics translated into more languages than he knew existed and some that he half-suspects come from "Star Trek." Among them (as best he can guesstablish):
Chinese: Xian Zi's "作曲"; Liu Fei's "Bu Tan Lian Ai Tan She Me," from her "Exit Lilith" collection
Dutch: Ketnet Band's single, "Te Cool Voor Mij"; "Big Brother" babe Betty Owczarek's single, "Koel Me Af"
Estonian: Birgit Õigemeel's No. 1 single, "Homme"; the JZ Belle album track "Meil on Lõpp"
French: "Vers les Étoiles," from Fady Maalouf's "Into the Light" CD
Italian: Nina Zilli's "L'amore é Femmina," the title track from her 2012 album (and her country's Eurovision Song Contest entry)
Japanese: Tomohisa Yamashita's "Tomo" from his No. 1 album, "Supergood, Superbad"; Alisa Mizuki's "Heroines" (don't be fooled by the English title) from "SpeciAlisa"
Korean: "Daydream," AnyBand's version of BoA's "Scream," also sung by… BoA on the re-release of the "Talk Play Love" EP
Latvian: Jenny May's Top 5 hit, "Es Gribu Vēl Mīlēt"
Spanish: "Baila, Baila," performed by Germany's Melanie Jaeger; "Mi Amore," by Latvia's Jenny May with Javier Fernandez
Swedish: Arvingarna's "Som i en Dröm," from the group's "Nummer 8" album
Swiss: "Stizzar" by P.I.A. feat. Orange
Taiwanese: Elva Hsiao's "Miss Elva" album track, "瘦瘦瘦瘦"
In spite of his fondness for drinking too much coffee and then exclaiming "Mon dieu!" even though he isn't the least bit sure what it means, Charlie has been allowed to add lyrics to songs co-written by such A-listers as:
Mattias Andreasson (of EMD)
Ricardo Autobahn (of Spray)
Vivien Eileen Bauernschmidt (ex-Aloha From Hell)
Christian Buettner (of Famties)
Leo Chantzaras (aka Freakchild)
DJ Mike Emilio
Joakim Haukaas (of HitNation)
Fredrik "Franciz" Jernberg
Johnel (aka John Lundvik)
|Andy Lee (of Love to Infinity)
Thomas Lipp (of Crush Boys)
John Matthews (aka Ricardo Autobahn)
Anton Malmberg Hård Af Segerstad (of Le Kid)
Niclas Molinder (of Twin)
Petra Marklund (aka September)
John Matthews (aka Ricardo Autobahn)
Andreas Ohrn (of Gravitonas)
Marcello Pagin (of Famties)
Amy Paige (of Van Go Lion)
Joacim Persson (of Twin)
Karl-Johan "KJ" Råsmark
Danny Saucedo (of EMD)
Erik Segerstedt (of EMD)
Mark "Big" Smith (as Chameleon Musique)
Stormby (aka Matt Eriksson)
Strify (of Cinema Bizarre)
Daniel Volpe (of Crush Boys)
Noel "Replay" Wayne
Johan "Jones" Wetterberg
Since he can resist neither working with talented people nor working, period, Charlie has history of butting into the careers of promising new artists. Currently, however, he is on hiatus from his kibitzing so that he might finally develop a knowledge of alpacas that he will feel safe in calling encyclopedic.
